Sweet Cessation

by Chris Page

/

about

One more new song for 2020.

Sweet Cessation wasn't written this year, but it feels like a good one to put out into the world at this mile marker we call end of year.

There are some lines in this song I'm reflecting on as we optimistically press on, out of 2020 and into 2021. And I keep reminding myself that music does help.

Keep looking out for each other.
Check in on one another.
Support your favourite small businesses.
Thank our front line workers.
And contribute to your local food bank if you can.

We've still got a long way to go, but we will get through this.

Peace.

lyrics

Lyrics:

With dead flowers on your mind
And a jazz-feel 4/4 time
Did you pay to erase me from your mind?
Like a patient on support
Or a lover filled with remorse
You campaigned like a train in vain.
If this heartbreak holds
All the keys to your dark back roads
As a silent rite
This is me leaving and saying goodbye.

I was lost in my hometown
I was stuck on repeat
Wandering around
And the weight of your words
Wore me down.
Like a decent shove from behind
Or a battered heart resigned
Did you pay to erase me from your mind?
If this heartbreak holds
All the keys to your dark back roads
As a silent rite
This is me leaving and saying goodbye.
