The Hymnals on a Clear Day (Sunday morning)

from The Hymnals On A Clear Day EP by Chris Page

/

about

Fuzzy memories of Montreal are at the core of this song I've been writing and enjoying playing to myself for a couple of years now. But it's time to put it out there and hope it gets a job.

If it's cool, I'll be here to duck down with you.

lyrics

You rolled your eyes in sequence
With the passing cop car lights
You regaled us with your tales of sober nights

When you stayed home from inertia
With the ringing in your ears
As we both declined to live beyond our years.

When your levee breaks
I might have some phone calls to make.

As we hopped around apartments
On those iron balconies
I was scared to death you’d cut me at the knees.

Like the twisted chunk of metal
I was caught in space and time
I could feel your warm persuasion coaxing mine

Then at Les Foufounes
We drank away the afternoon.

While the Mystic Zealots sound checked
With their tennis racket tone
Their feedback made me think of you alone.

We’ll sing hymnals on a clear day
And we’ll swing from chandeliers
And we won’t be sorry trashing our careers.

We won’t go with the frat kids
Who are largely out of touch
They chew and spit cliche’s out like a crutch.

Who complains about the fallout
When there’s battle tested minds
We’ll fight the good fight here in 4/4 time.

So if its cool, I’ll leave the weirding out to you
I wish you knew, I love your subdueditude

And if its cool, I’ll be here to duck down with you
I wish you knew...
